Legal Compliance

NFPS Ltd's training was initially legally audited by Earnly Money, Barrister at Law and legal input has also been provided by:

  • Professor Gary Slapper LLB (London), LLM (London), PGCE (Manchester), PhD (London)
  • John Wadham: Solicitor and Human Rights expert, Chair of the UK's NPM and Associate at Doughty Street Chambers

Mark Dawes (the former founder of NFPS Ltd) was also an Expert Witness on the use of physical force and all training provided is contextualised within UK statute and common law with regular input from legal professionals.

All training is also compliant with current relevant industry sector-specific guidance, such as:

  • The DoH Positive and Proactive Care Guidance
  • DfEE Guidance for Schools
  • Skills for Care and Skills for Health guidelines
  • NICE guidance

Our training is also Human Rights Compliant and we have mapped our training to the RRN (Restraint Reduction Network Standards) and comply with them where legally and reasonably practicable.

Medical Reviews

Our physical intervention and breakaway techniques undergo regular medical reviews by Dr Tony Bleetman, a respected independent medical expert in the UK.

Scientific evidence on restraint positional asphyxiation risk has been provided by Dr John Parkes of Coventry University, an expert on the subject.

The Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015

NFPS Ltd training also complies with 'The Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015' and the 'Guide To The Children's Homes Regulations Including the Quality Standards - April 2015', ensuring our training is safe for use with children who are still developing, physically and emotionally.

Skills for Care and Skills for Health Compliance

Our Conflict Resolution package meets NHS requirements set by the NHS Security Management Service. We also offer training aligned to BTEC National Vocational Standards via Pearson's, the UK's largest Awarding Organisation.

Awarding Organisation Compliance

As a Pearson Awarding Organisation Centre, NFPS Ltd has a full Quality Management System built around an ISO 9001 2008 framework, with regular inspections by Standards Verifiers and External Examiners.

Independent Review of Training

In 2009, The Priory Group reviewed its MVA training and chose NFPS Ltd's system for its legal defensibility, ethical appropriateness, and practical effectiveness.

Responsibilities

SLC Training Ltd will:

  • Respect and promote the rights of children and adults at risk.
  • Implement procedures to protect children and adults at risk from abuse.
  • Train staff and volunteers in best practices for safeguarding.
  • Respond appropriately to allegations of misconduct or abuse.
  • Review this Policy and these Procedures regularly.

Principles

The welfare of children and adults at risk is the primary concern. All staff must report concerns about abuse and cooperate with investigations led by the Police.

Procedure

Staff and volunteers are trained in child protection and vulnerable adult procedures and are required to report incidents of abuse promptly.
