At SLC Training UK, we provide practical, professional training for schools, children’s residential homes, care providers and other organisations across Wales and the UK.

Our training combines recognised training methodologies with practical experience gained through working directly in regulated children’s residential care.

NFPS Accredited Instructors

Our Physical Intervention and Breakaway & Self-Defence courses are delivered by instructors accredited through the National Federation for Personal Safety (NFPS Ltd).

Our instructors hold NFPS Level 3 Approved Restraint & Breakaway Instructor accreditation and maintain their competence through regular refresher training and re-accreditation.

Our courses use NFPS physical intervention and breakaway methodologies, with training tailored to the needs and risks of the organisations we work with.

NFPS advises that its training system has undergone legal, medical, health and safety and academic reviews, providing an established technical foundation for the techniques taught by our instructors.

Our Certification Options

We offer different certification arrangements depending on each organisation’s requirements.

SLC Training Certification

Our standard courses are delivered by NFPS-accredited instructors, with delegates receiving an SLC Training certificate following successful completion and any applicable competency assessments.

Our certificates may display the NFPS Approved PI Instructor logo to demonstrate the instructor’s accreditation.

Official NFPS Certification

For organisations requiring official NFPS certification, suitable programmes can be discussed through the relevant NFPS licensing and assessment arrangements.

Pearson BTEC Qualifications

Where organisations require a BTEC qualification, we can discuss suitable programmes through the appropriate NFPS and Pearson certification arrangements.

External qualifications are subject to the relevant course, licensing, assessment and certification requirements. An SLC-issued certificate is not itself an official NFPS award or Pearson BTEC qualification.

Supporting Safe Practice in Wales

Our training approach reflects the principles of the Welsh Government’s Reducing Restrictive Practices Framework.

Our Physical Intervention courses emphasise the importance of using restrictive physical intervention only where lawful, necessary and proportionate, and as a last resort.

We also recognise the distinction between restrictive physical intervention and breakaway techniques used for lawful self-defence.

Our specialist courses complement an organisation’s wider safeguarding, prevention, de-escalation and behaviour support arrangements.

Practical Experience in Residential Care

SLC Training works closely with Silver Lining Care Ltd, which operates CIW-regulated children’s residential homes in South Wales.

Our trainers bring practical experience of supporting vulnerable young people, managing challenging situations and applying safeguarding and risk-management procedures.

This helps us deliver realistic training informed by the environments our clients work in every day.

Our training includes appropriate course documentation and competency assessments where relevant.

Depending on the agreed programme, we can also provide training needs analysis, refresher training, policy support and ongoing guidance.
